Bank of North America has created a new savings account for customers who are tired of the low interest rates on new accounts. The new offering is called the DreamSaver Account and promises a 35% interest rate for the first five years. Unlike other high return accounts, the DreamSaver account will be FDIC insured. There are no strings attached, however according to the fine print the maximum balance for the DreamSaver is U.S. $1.

Lottery Loser Sues Children
May 22nd, 2008 · No Comments
Athens, GA - A disgruntled cab driver in Athens, Georgia has filed a lawsuit against his children for being born on dates that didn’t match any numbers in last week’s MegaMillions drawing. Stephen Jones, 46, filed the suit against his three children whose names were not released due to their status as minors.
The winning numbers for the drawing held on May 16 were 6,11,39,46,47 and the Mega Ball was 26. Mr. Jones said his strategy was to play his age(46), his wife’s age(39), his age plus one(47), and the birth days of his three children(5,8,21). While the first three numbers matched, none of the children’s birth days came up. Although the ticket did not win the jackpot it still earned a free ticket for matching three numbers.
The suit seeks $196 million in damages, the amount Mr. Jones would have won if his children had been born on the 6th, 11th, and 26th of the month.
A lawyer for the defendants called the lawsuit “ridiculous” and said “the only person who had any control over the birthdates of my clients–besides their mother–was the plaintiff himself. If Mr. Jones wanted to win the lottery so bad, he should have planned his child rearing activities on a better schedule.”

Stock Market Closes Early For Holiday Weekend
May 22nd, 2008 · No Comments
New York - The NASDAQ and NYSE both closed at noon on Thursday to give surprised employees an extra long Memorial Day weekend. After the weather forecast predicted a clear, warm holiday, the boards at both exchanges realized that by giving their employees and traders an extra day and a half they would greatly cut the chances of anyone getting stuck in long traffic jams.
The rest of the country rapidly experienced gross economic inefficiencies once the glue that holds the economy together disbanded midweek. We were unable to track down any inside sources for comments, as everyone was already on their way to the Hamptons or Martha’s Vineyard.

New Toyota Hybrid will run on Gatorade
May 21st, 2008 · No Comments
Orlando, Florida - Toyota Motors(Ticker: TM) and PepsiCo (Ticker: PEP) today announced that the next generation Toyota Prius will be powered solely by Gatorade energy drinks. The stock prices of both companies soared after the announcement while Coca Cola Co. and Dr. Pepper Co. tumbled. Analysts had previously speculated that the new car would be powered by Sprite or Seven Up–made by the Coke and Dr. Pepper companies, respectively.
According to details released at the press conference, the new Prius will accept three types of fuel: Regular Orange, Premium Fierce Berry, and Ultra Frost Glacier Freeze. The more expensive brands offer better fuel mileage and prettier colors in your exhaust smoke.
Toyota CEO Katsuaki Watanabe said the joint venture couldn’t have come at a more perfect time with primitive, fossil fuel based gasoline selling for record prices. “The average price of a 20oz bottle of Gatorade is 25% percent cheaper than what you’d pay for gas. Additionally, by returning their empty Gatorade bottles consumers will receive an extra 5 cent rebate, and those living in Maine will earn 10 cents.”
People across the industry have praised Toyota engineers for the creation of the cutting edge engine system that will power the new vehicle. Said one Ford automotive engineer, “The improved aerodynamics is impressive for the increase in fuel efficiency. What’s more impressive however is the new engine. How they were able to fit an entire Olympic athlete into each car boggles the mind. I guess when you live in a country the size of Rhode Island that’s home to 120 million people, you are much more likely to innovate in space saving designs.”
EPA tests show the new Prius gets 60 miles to the gallon in city driving and 80 miles to the gallon when driving on a track, football field, or basketball court. Using the Gatorade Squeeze bottles is also said to improve mileage.

Confirmed: Facebook Phone Under Development
May 6th, 2008 · 7 Comments
UPDATE 12:35pm: The following information has been confirmed from additional sources inside both Facebook and Verizon Wireless, who recently broke off talks regarding a carrier agreement.
Could we soon really see the fPhone? About eight months ago, two friends of mine, both senior hardware engineers from Apple who worked on the development of the iPhone, made a conspicuous job change to Facebook. I couldn’t help but notice the coincidence and wondered at the time whether or not Facebook was planning on launching their own phone. After all, back then it seemed everyone was trying to catch up with Apple (remember the rumored gPhone?). Well, after eight months of wondering, I finally got a big break last night when one of my sources(who will remain nameless) couldn’t help but gush about his excitement about the new “Facebook phone”, set to be announced Monday May 12th.
I couldn’t get many details from him, except for the three features he was extremely excited about:
- The setup process. “You turn it on the first time and login. That’s it. All your contacts and phone numbers appear right away.”
- Seamless interaction between the website and phone. It’s apparently dead simple to message with people on the computer and there is LIVE VIDEO!! so a friend at a computer can request you to broadcast to them(not sure if they use uStream or Justin.tv or their own software). Also this confirms there is a camera.
- Multi-person use. Hitting the “Switch User” button on the home screen allows someone else to login and use your phone. Need to call someone from your friend’s phone but forget the number? Now you can instantly login to your friends phone and all of your contacts appear. When you logout, they’re gone. Not sure who pays for the call :).
It sounds pretty sweet. I seriously doubt my source made this up–Zuckerberg doesn’t have as zealous an enforcement of secrecy as Jobs and I’ve never once heard this friend say anything that wasn’t true. If I can get any more details or confirmation I’ll update this immediately.
